a peek into my world
I thought I would take a few shots of what I surround myself with in my studio for inspiration...I have lots of plants, but this one is my newest jade sitting on a shelf not far from my computer...the cubby that holds a couple herb planters is housed with one of my favorite watercolors that my mother painted years ago and the last cubby has one of my favorite pieces by my artist friend Robin and two of my ceramic pots...

Splash of G O L D

A WEEK AGO I RECEIVED A REQUEST FOR A COUPLE SPLASH PLATES IN GOLD. I'VE NEVER WORKED IN GOLD BEFORE, BUT I HAPPILY ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE. I HAD TO GET SOME NEW GLAZE OF COURSE. I ENDED UP WITH A MAGIC METALLIC GOLD. IT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT PROCESS THAN WHAT I'M USED TO. ONCE THE PLATE WAS BISQUE FIRED I THEN PUT A CLEAR COAT OF GLAZE ON AND FIRED FOR A SECOND TIME. NEXT THE GOLD GLAZE WAS PAINTED ON AND NOW I'M WAITING FOR THE MAGIC METALLIC MATTE SEALER TO ARRIVE SO I CAN FINISH THE LAST STEP. SO FAR I'M HAPPY WITH THE WAY THEY LOOK. I JUST HOPE THE MATTE CLEAR DOESN'T TAKE AWAY FROM THE BRILLIANCE OF THE GOLD TOO MUCH...

It has been a very busy week and I'm not complaining one bit! I have spent everyday throwing and glazing, trying to complete orders as they come. In the meantime, I'm catching up on a few springtime chores when I get a chance. I had the opportunity to spend a couple hours the other day working in the yard. Just in time for some snow today! And just this morning I was able to start some herbs in the house...

After I worked in the pottery studio this morning I moved into the painting studio.I have needed to finish an art journal for awhile and these are a couple of the pages.
It's been a long but fun art day!
Off to make some delicious soup for dinner.

a new venture

I had a feeling this was going to be a good year for new happenings! My newest venture will be selling some of my pottery at a hip new store called the Junque Drawer in my hometown starting in April! I'm also excited to add new pieces to my own shop! I've been working on some really cool hand built box planters. I have two listed right now and am waiting to glaze the big one this week.
I'm feeling spring around the corner so I've been busy making lots of new planters and planning out my new garden! As much as I love winter, I'm getting a bit anxious for spring. I LOVE gardening!

I started pretty early this morning and accomplished quite a bit. I'd like to get one of my wholesale orders glazed by the end of the week if I can get my kiln up to speed...Here on the left I finished up the day with a handbuilt square planter. Last week I made a couple smaller ones and thought I'd try a bigger one this week...
