a Cute pillow and an UgLy mug

I went to Salida today to suprise visit my parents. While we were out and about, we made it downtown to a new fabric shop that I've been wanting to go check out. It's called Fringe. They have fabric, supplies, yarn, buttons. And if that wasn't enough, they also have the coolest gift items. Anything from journals to luggage tags and books! Lots of books on sewing and knitting. AND they offer classes too! If I lived closer, I'd take one in a heart beat. (In my spare time of course.) Stop by and shop if your close by. http://www.fringefab.com/.
While we were there I bought some moda fabric with a refreshing print. I needed to make a couple new pillows for the spare room. (One is completed, the other is waiting for the insert.)The comforter has changed from brown to red and it needed a little contrast.

I had some pieces in the kiln that I pulled out tonight. One of them was a mug that I had reglazed. It was made in red clay and originally glazed with a white spotted glaze. It didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, so I decided to reglaze it. Apparently I had mixed the glazes up somehow and reglazed it with an orange spotted glaze. Now it's a real ugly mug, but so ugly that I actually like it.

Thank You Carbondale!

Night and Day
Last Friday, I was invited to Carbondale to install two of my sculptures to this years Art Around Town. D and I had a pleasant drive over Independence Pass and arrived in plenty of time. While we were there, we picked up Night and Day. It was in the Town Hall for a year. Now Aphrodite will have a new home there and Gucci has her own spot in a quaint little park on 4th and Main.

Everyday is Laundry Day X's 2

I finished a commission this week. Two paintings of Everyday is Laundry Day are going to have new homes in a Canadian showroom for a homebuilder. Just waiting for the paint to dry so I can ship them out. Now I'm finishing up some pottery orders. I'm hoping to get them in the kiln before lunch and maybe go for a little ride this afternoon. =)

Ceramics and Paintings

It's getting to be that time of year again. People are starting to get ready for the holidays. I've been working on two seperate commissions. One is for 12 ceramic bottles that will be used for oil diffusers and 6 soap dishes. They are all bisqued and ready to be glazed.

The other order is for two 24x24 paintings of Everyday Is Laundry Day. They are being made in acrylics and oil. It's been fun working on this project. I'm doing them both at the same time. My deadline is fast approaching and I'm hoping to have them finished by today. Here is a picture of what the beginning stage looked like. I just placed the colors where they needed to go before applying thicker layers of paint on top of the undercoat. They will be hanging in a showroom in Cananda.

The High Price of Art and Shipping Costs

MEMO from the desk of SAMOS

I am learning the hard way that the price of art is only relative to those collecting it. Makes sense, doesn't it? I have been pricing my work not by what I believe it is worth, but how much I think someone else would pay for it. Not such a good idea. My mom once gave me some advice that I have tried to live by in the artworld and that is, if you have a piece of art that is for sale, make sure it is set at a price that you will be happy with once the work is gone...I have seemed to forgot that little piece of advice. And now that I remember it, my prices will be going up! No worries though. You'll still be able to afford my work. =) It's the shipping costs you'll have to be concerned with. I have found that shipping internationally is about double that it would be in the US. With that said, I will be raising shipping costs effective immediately. And if it isn't stated, I will email out the cost of shipping to any buyers outside the US for the cost of shipping.

With Warmest Regards,

SAMOS
