Gerhard Richter: a true inspiration + a family of artists

(c) gerhard richter

I had such a great day and topped it off by watching 2 really good documentaries tonight. The first one was Gerhard Richter Painting a film by Corinna Belz. I love foreign films and for me, it can't get any better than watching an amazing artist work in his studio, listen to his thoughts in German while reading it in English. I have seen some of his earlier works in person, but to see him create his larger than life size abstracts was such a delight for me. Here are a few of my favorites...

The second documentary was called The Woodmans by C. Scott Willis. It's a very raw look into the lives of an artistic family who deals with the everyday struggles of living as an artist and how they deal with the tragic death of the extremely talented photographer, Francesca Woodman.

Christmas time...

our beautiful tree
I just realized this morning that Christmas is next week!

In the midst of getting Christmas cards made and
finishing up last minute orders, I am taking time to reflect
on this years ups and downs, counting my blessings,
and looking forward to bringing in a new year...

in the making...

sculpture (in the making)

A dear friend of mine asked me this morning what new creative pieces I've been working on. Well, here are a few of them...As we near the end of 2013, I often find myself thinking about next year already and what it is I'd like to accomplish and what it is I need to finish before it arrives.

How about you?

Change is Good...right?

my new friend
Yesterday I came home with a new computer and not just any new computer. My very first iMac! I've been thinking about making the switch for quite some time. Three Toshiba laptops later...and I opted for a desktop. So now I'm getting used to a new keyboard, a whole new system, and trying to get my work done! Talk about throwing a loop in my routine! I love the size of the screen. My sweetie thought I should get the 27" but I went for the 21" instead and happy I did. It's plenty big for me. I like how easy it is to edit images, but am having some difficulties uploading them to my shop. I'm thinking I need to get Aperture to resize them. There is so much to learn, but I'm hopeful that I made the right decision. Have any shortcuts to share? Feel free to share in the comment box!

SAMOS in NY

Thalia in Wonderland © samos 2013

Yesterday I received exciting news that my work will be exhibited at the See.Me Gallery and Projections Garden in Long Island City, NY! Actually, I had been accepted a few months ago but wasn't sure of the dates. Looks like the opening will be THIS Saturday! I so wish I could be there to see all the artwork and the people at this amazing event! I am hoping that my husband and I can take a trip out there in the next couple weeks to see the exhibit at the gallery. If you or anyone that you know is going, my work will be projected at 6:52 pm. Give or take 10-15 minutes before or after the given time.

The artwork projections will be shown on the 42-story Linc LIC building. The viewing will take place across from Linc LIC, at “The Rockrose Lot” which is also showcasing the sculpture “Parting” through a partnership with Socrates Sculpture Park.

So, if you see Thalia in Wonderland projected on a tall building on the east coast somewhere, you know who the artist is.

Wishcasting Wednesday

© samos 2013

October is here and I need to do a fall clean up in our yard. My wish for today is that I have the ambition to clean up my back yard, make it into the studio to throw some mugs, and paint!!!

What is your wish for today?

Most mornings...

bisque ware

consist of pulling new pieces from the kiln. Today I had a mixed load, mostly bisque ware with a couple glazed pieces...

lil dot pot

While I was in the studio, I received an order for a mug. So I grabbed my shipping materials, the mug and proceeded to get it ready to go...

order ready to go

Then I picked up my camera, the glazed pieces and shot some images. Off to the computer to edit and write up a quick blog post.

How do you start your work day?
