life of a potter

my boy, Lumpy

I started the kiln this morning @ 6:30 in hopes that I will be up this evening to glaze the newly bisque ware to fire once more...in the meantime, I've made a run to town to pick up more supplies (clay, glaze, etc.), went for a walk with my friend and our dogs, gave the littlest one a bath since she happened to roll in 2 piles of horse manure along the way, and watered the horses. I would have loved to plant my gladiola bulbs, but the wind has been nonstop all day.

I suppose I should take advantage of the warm pottery studio and do some throwing before it's time to paint...here's to having a productive day! Cheers!

Great Conversation and a Good Book

The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau

Last week I met up with my friend Robin, artist and creator at WellofCreations.
It was so nice to connect with such a beautiful soul! We met at this cute
little coffee shop that I've never been to before and had a delicious lunch.
We chatted about GOD, art, family...you name it, we covered it!

It's always nice to take a break from the studio and reconnect with your

friends. It gives you time to listen to what others are working on and

time for you to reflect on the projects you are creating.

Before I met with Robin, she suggested a book that she had read:

The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau

I ordered it and have been reading it since. As most of you know, I like to
take my sweet time when I read, so I'm only on chapter three, and...
I visited Chris's website, subscribed to his newsletters and purchased:

The Unconventional Guide to Art and Money

Now I have a lot of reading to do + making lots of new art! I've been busy working on a large painting that was commissioned a week ago and some new pottery orders as well.

what have you been up to?

an inquisitive, curious mind wants to know...

Have a great week and I'll check in when I get another chance!

inspire

With spring just around the corner,
I was inspired to paint this butterfly painting.
A few posts ago, I had lost all ambition to
create or do anything but veg out.
Lately I've been busy with all sorts of
new c r e a t i v e endeavors
as well as ones around the home that I've
been wanting to tend to.

so WHAT or WHO inspires you???
if you tell me, I'll tell you. ;)
I'd love to know!

closet makeover + new curtains + more

This last weekend I was motivated to clean and organize my art room closet.

I have been dreading the task for quite some time and after a motivational conversation with my sister, I decided to just

jump in

and

 do it!

organization = happiness

I'm a little bit of a hoarder when it comes to handbags and totes. You never know when you need a bag, right? So instead of weeding them out just yet, I found a cool way to store them so it's easy to find what I'm looking for. I used a wooden dowel that used to be for a bathroom towel rack and inserted it under the shelf. And of course, I organized my coat collection too.

I was also tired of my recycled curtains and came across some material that I couldn't live without.

Aren't they cool? I love how they turned out!

I haven't broke out the paints in awhile either, so here's the beginning of a new painting.

Out with the Old, In with the New

lil blu bowl set

A couple days ago, I woke up to a very dead  computer. I tried everything and it wouldn't turn on. Normally I would look into getting it fixed right away (and I still may), but I can't do my work without one, so as much as I hated to, I had to go shopping for a new one. Some of you may look at such a tragedy as an opportunity to get the newest and coolest machine technology has to offer. Right? Well, I on the other hand become quite attached to everything I own and have a very difficult time getting used to new things. Therefore, shopping for a new computer was not something I was looking forward to.  Needless to say, I am back at work and trying to get used to my new computer. I was lucky enough to have all my images saved on thumb drives although I did lose all my music and documents that might be difficult to recover.

On a brighter note, I have been working on my website tonight. I changed the colors and added some more work. So if you stop by, please let me know what you think!
